OZARK, Mo. — The Central Arkansas Beach Bears split day one of the Beach Bear Bash on Thursday, opening with a sweep of Southwest Baptist before falling to Lindenwood in the afternoon session. UCA moves to 3-3 overall on the season.
UCA 5, Southwest Baptist 0
The Beach Bears began the day in dominant fashion, sweeping Southwest Baptist 5-0.
Brooke Sharp and Chandler Lawrence got UCA on the board first with a 21-10, 21-15 win on court four. Natalie Blum and Ella Layzell followed with a 21-14, 21-14 victory on court two to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.
Ella Weilert and Reegan Siewert clinched the match on court five with a commanding 21-6, 21-8 performance. Madelyn White and Allison Heck extended the lead to 4-0 with a 21-9, 21-15 win at the No. 3 position.
On court one, Anna Linskey and Anna Jaworski closed out the sweep in thrilling fashion, bouncing back after dropping the first set to secure a 19-21, 21-10, 15-13 three-set victory.
Lindenwood 4, UCA 1
In the afternoon dual, the Beach Bears faced a tough Lindenwood squad and fell 4-1.
Lindenwood struck early on courts one and two. Abby Jacobs and Annalie McWhorter defeated Linskey and Jaworski 23-21, 21-10 on court one, while Nyah Wilson and Susanna Beretti topped Blum and Layzell 21-11, 21-15 on court two.
Court three provided the most competitive matchup of the dual. Madelyn White and Allison Heck forced a third set after taking the second 22-20, but ultimately fell 21-17, 20-22, 15-12.
Lexie Schauffler and Katie Bockhorst secured the team victory for Lindenwood with a 21-10, 22-20 win on court four.
UCA's lone point came from Ella Weilert and Reegan Siewert, who earned a 21-17, 21-15 straight-set win on court five.
The Beach Bears return to action Friday morning at 10 a.m. against Missouri State before closing out the tournament at 2 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky.
