Bears Go 1-1 in Doubleheader with Demons

Game 1:
CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (4-2) secured a narrow 3-2 victory over Northwestern State University (4-2) on Saturday at Bear Stadium in game one of today's doubleheader. Mark Ross contributed with a crucial triple that sparked a two-run sixth inning for the Bears.

Northwestern State took an early lead in the first inning with Harrison's RBI single, scoring Davis after he advanced to third on a single by Marsala. The inning ended with the Demons ahead 1-0.
In the fifth, Davis extended the lead for Northwestern State with a solo home run to right field, making it 2-0. Central Arkansas responded in the bottom half of the inning when Zane Denton hit a solo home run to left field, reducing the deficit to 2-1.

Central Arkansas capitalized in the sixth inning. Nate Negre singled, followed by Mark Ross's RBI triple to right center, scoring Negre to tie the game. Jack Runsick then hit a triple to left center, driving in Ross and giving Central Arkansas a 3-2 advantage. The score remained unchanged for the rest of the game.
Caden Meeler led the Bears on the mound, pitching 6 innings with 6 hits allowed, 2 earned runs, and 6 strikeouts, earning the win to improve to 2-0. Hunter Alexander was effective in relief, securing his third save of the season by delivering 2 scoreless innings despite allowing 3 hits. For the Demons, Dylan Marionneaux started and pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and recording 3 strikeouts, taking the loss to fall to 0-1. Brody Trosclair provided solid relief for Northwestern State, striking out 4 batters across 2 1/3 scoreless innings while surrendering just 1 hit.

Game 2:
CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas (4-3) fell to Northwestern State University (5-2) with a final score of 5-2 on Saturday at Bear Stadium. This was game two of today's doubleheader. The Bears managed to score two runs in the fourth inning, but the visitors secured the victory with a decisive three-run 15th inning.
 
Central Arkansas and Northwestern St played a tightly contested game that stretched into extra innings. The Demons took an early lead in the second inning when Rains doubled down the right field line, driving in a run for a 1-0 advantage.
 
In the fourth inning, the Bears responded. Jayden Sloan singled to right field and advanced to second following Nate Negre's hit by pitch. A throwing error by the pitcher allowed Sloan to score, tying the game. Jack Runsick then reached on a fielder's choice, bringing home Negre to give the Bears a 2-1 lead.
 
The Demons tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run by Marsala, leveling the score at 2-2.
 
The game remained deadlocked until the 15th inning when Northwestern St capitalized on a couple of errors. Siervo scored on a left field error, and further mistakes allowed two more unearned runs to cross the plate, resulting in a 5-2 lead for the visitors.
 
Caide White of the Bears pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out four. Jake Jones delivered a strong performance over 4 innings, giving up just one hit and striking out four without allowing a run. Braxton Haywood, despite pitching three innings without an earned run, was credited with the loss after surrendering three unearned runs. For the Demons, Lucas Harrington claimed the win with a good five-inning relief appearance, yielding only one hit and striking out six. Kevin Robinson started the game for the Demons, lasting six innings and allowing seven hits but no earned runs, striking out three. Wesley Marien added four scoreless innings in relief, striking out five and allowing just one hit.
