Conway, Ark.- The University of Central Arkansas Bears (17-10, 12-2) are on the road for two ASUN games in Florida. First the Bears will be in DeLand to take on the Stetson Hatters (9-18, 5-9) on Thursday night, tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. CT. The Bears and Hatters played in Conway back on January 3
rd, the Bears won that one going away 93-73. The Bears had a 13 point lead a half and never looked back.
Camren Hunter (21) and
Ty Robinson (20) both had 20+ point games while three other Bears scored in double figures; Turman Byrne (11),
Cole McCormick (11) and
Harry Beauchamp (10). The Bears will then head down to Ft. Myers to take on the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (12-15, 6-8) for a 1:00 p.m. CT tip-off on Saturday afternoon. The Bears and Eagles played in the first ASUN match of their seasons back on New Years Day. The Bears got the win by two points, 85-83. The Bears were down three at halftime but shot 60% in the second half to pull ahead.
Ty Robinson had 27 points on the day while
Camren Hunter added 17,
Javion Guy-King had 16 and
Cole McCormick had 12.
Last time out, the Bears won their tenth game in a row on Saturday, beating UWG 76-62 in the Farris Center. With the win, the Bears earned a first-round bye in the ASUN tournament in March. The Bears are currently in 2
nd place in the ASUN standing, two wins ahead of 3
rd place and just 1 game behind 1
st place. Against UWG, the Bears were up nine at half, but the Wolves battled their way back into the game early in the second half before the Bears pulled away.
Ty Robinson had a double-double scoring 23 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
Luke Moore added 21 points.
Camren Hunter scored his 500
th point of the season. The 12 conference wins is a school record in the Div. 1 era. In ASUN games the Bears are averaging 84 points per game while shooting 47% from the field, 37% from 3-point range and 74% from the free throw line.
The Hatters have lost four of their last five games, the win was against Jacksonville in DeLand last Wednesday. In ASUN games, Jamie Phillips Jr. is leading the team in scoring with 16 points per game, he is also averaging 5.6 rebounds per game. Ethan Copeland and Collin Kuhl are also averaging in double figures with 13.9 and 12.7 points per game. This season the Hatters are scoring 73 points per game while shooting 45% from the field, 35% from 3-point range and 68% from the free throw line in ASUN games.
The Eagles have won four of their last six games which includes winning their last two games versus UNF and Stetson, both games were in Ft. Myers. The Eagles will play tonight against Jacksonville, also at home, before facing the Bears at home on Saturday. J.R. Konieczny is leading the Eagles in ASUN games scoring 16.6 points per game, he is also leading the team in rebounds with 6.6 per game. Jordan Ellerbee is averaging 13.5 points per ASUN game, while Isaiah Malone is averaging 11.5. As a team the Eagles are averaging 75 points per game while shooting 46% from the field, 36% from 3-point range and 70% from the free throw line in ASUN games.
