CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women's basketball team is back at home this week, starting Wednesday against West Georgia. The Sugar Bears will look to defend home court against the Wolves at 6:30 p.m. in the Farris Center.
The Sugar Bears (10-8, 3-3 ASUN) split their two games in Jacksonville last week, picking up a win at North Florida to close the weekend.
Shae Littleford averaged a team-high 21.5 points per game over the weekend, including a 25-point afternoon against North Florida. Her outburst against the Ospreys marked a season-high for any Sugar Bear, and her four threes tied her best output of the year.
Cheyanne Kemp also had a good week, with games of 20 points with five threes and 16 points with three three-pointers.
Since the start of ASUN games, Littleford (15.0 ppg) and Kemp (13.7) have been leading the Sugar Bears offensively, and each have had five double-digit scoring games in six conference outings. Kemp leads the team with 29 made field goals and 14 made threes, and Littleford leads the team and ASUN with 38 made free throws.
Central Arkansas won both meetings with the Wolves last year, claiming the road game by three and the home game by ten. In Conway last year,
Bree Stephens had 16 points on just six shots, hitting four three-pointers, while adding six rebounds, three assists and three blocks. The Sugar Bears shot 11-for-22 from deep in the game, and shot 52 percent overall.
West Georgia enters the week 12-5 overall and 5-1 in ASUN games. After dropping their ASUN opener to EKU, the Wolves have been the team to beat, with a road win over Bellarmine and home wins over all four Florida schools. The Wolves also snapped FGCU's 57-game ASUN winning streak on Thursday, then stayed focused enough to beat Stetson to close the weekend.
Scoring has been a major factor for the Wolves, who average the third-most points per game in conference, with 76.7 points per game. Four West Georgia players average 12 or more points in league play, led by Jasmine Jones's 16.7 points per game. She has done so as one of the ASUN's best three-point shooters, making 22 triples on 51 percent from deep. West Georgia also gets double-digit contributions from Sydne Tolbert (15.2 ppg), Asia Donald (13.7 ppg) and Destiny Jones (12.7 ppg).
Tip-off against the Wolves is set for 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. Fans can also keep up with the Sugar Bears on 91.3 The Bear.
