CONWAY, Ark. – After rescheduling once due to the weather in the Conway area, the Central Arkansas softball team is set to host Eastern Kentucky in an ASUN series in Sunday and Monday. The Bears will play a doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Sunday, followed by a 12 p.m. first pitch on Monday.
The Bears (17-20, 5-3 ASUN) look to bounce back from a loss at No. 18 Mississippi State on Tuesday, and perhaps return to the offensive numbers that worked against Austin Peay last weekend. Central Arkansas is hitting .327 across eight ASUN games this season, including a .484 average from senior third baseman
Kylie Griffin and a .480 from freshman
Kaitlyn Graham. The Bears have four hitters in conference games hitting .375 or better.
But last time the Bears and Colonels played one another, the first weekend of ASUN play, the bats were decidedly not active. In two games, Central Arkansas scraped across just two runs, totaling nine hits in the two losses.
Eastern Kentucky has won seven of its last ten, posting a 26-9 record and a 7-1 run in ASUN games. Last week, the Colonels took two of three from North Alabama and beat Morehead State in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
EKU has been one of the ASUN's best teams this season, in large part due to Maddi Rutan. The sophomore two-way player leads the team at both the plate and in the circle. She tops the roster with a .464 average and 11 home runs, while leading the pitching staff with 100.2 innings pitched and 138 strikeouts.
First pitch against the Colonels is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday, and 12 p.m. on Monday. Sunday's games will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available for all games.
