Bears Drop Final Midweek to No. 10 Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas softball battled No. 10 Arkansas Tuesday night, but couldn't muster an upset against the Razorbacks at Natalie Shock Stadium.

The 7-0 final score moves the Bears to 20-24 on the year. Central Arkansas was competitive for three innings, keeping the game within one run before the Hogs were able to open up the score.

Freshman Lucy Crowder started the game in the circle, and opened the first with a three-up, three-down inning. Kylie Griffin then got the offense going with a two-strike single, slicing one up the middle to establish a baserunner. Kaitlyn Graham followed it up with a two-out single that allowed Griffin to get to third. Lilly Hood battled through eight pitches to draw a walk and load the bases, but with two outs already, the Bears stranded three runners.

Arkansas got its first hit in the second, but Madi Young turned two to get the Bears out of the inning. Central Arkansas couldn't get anything going in the bottom of the second, and Arkansas capitalized with its first run of the game on a RBI groundout in the third. The Hogs continued to add runs in each of the next two innings, building a lead in which Central Arkansas couldn't find enough offense to make a dent.

The Bears stay at home this weekend to resume ASUN play, hosting the Lipscomb Bisons in a three-game set. The series will take place on Friday and Saturday, with a doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.
