CONWAY, Ark. - Central Arkansas softball gets set for two midweeks this week, facing Missouri State on Monday before battling Memphis on Wednesday. Both games are at home, and both have first pitches of 5 p.m.
The Bears (7-10) picked up a couple of wins to close the weekend on Saturday, earning a run-rule win over Purdue Fort Wayne before overcoming SIU in extras. Addie Graham extended her hitting streak to eight games, Madge Layfield picked up her first win in Purple and Gray, and the Bears found a way away from Farris Field. Now, the team returns for the next eight-straight, starting with the Bears and Tigers.
Now with a few more innings under the belt, Kylie Griffin's .393 batting average is starting to command respect, and the senior's one strikeout this season has her among the nation's toughest Ks in the country. Graham also continues to build a hitter's profile, with an average of .377 in 53 at bats. She ranks second on the team with 20 hits and four stolen bases, and leads the team with five doubles.
Missouri State has played an absolute gauntlet this season, and a 1-14 record does not indicate the talent on the team. With nine games against Power 4 opponents, the Bears have put themselves through one of the toughest schedules in the country. Through all of that, Kayla Ulrich holds a .333 batting average, with three doubles and a home run this season. In the circle, McKenzie Vaughan has the team's lone win, and holds a 5.91 ERA with nine strikeouts.
Memphis, who will come in on Wednesday, is 10-10 on the year, with a 7-0 home record. Kennedy Semien, with a .400 average, is one of three Tigers hitting .350 or better. Semien currently has an OBP of .515, adding 11 walks and two HBPs to her line. The Memphis offense has a .313 average, with 34 doubles, five triples and 15 home runs. The pitching staff holds an even 4.00 ERA, combining efforts of four pitchers to accumulate 85 strikeouts.
First pitch for both games is set for 5 p.m. The games will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
