Bears Drop Decision to Close Ragin' Cajun Invitational

LAFAYETTE, La. – Despite taking an early lead, the Central Arkansas softball team couldn't hold on, rounding out the Rajin' Cajun Invitational with a loss to the host Louisiana-Lafayette.

Central Arkansas moved to 2-7 with the loss, but is starting to see some of the new faces come around. Freshman Mya January got her second start of the season, and came through going 1-for-2 at the plate. Kaitlyn Graham, who has started every game at first base, has a hit in six games this season, including three of the four games this weekend.

Kylie Griffin scored the first run of the game, getting on base on a fielding error in the first inning. Graham singled to move Griffin into scoring position, and the senior got 60 feet closer after stealing third base. Madi Young sealed the deal by putting a ball in play and reaching first on a fielder's choice, allowing Griffin to sprint home for the score.

Louisiana tied the score in the next half inning, and then added runs in each of the next four innings. Meanwhile, the Bear offense struggled to get runners aboard. Despite getting at least one in each of the first four innings, the inability to move runners prevented the offense from attempting a comeback.

Central Arkansas is at home for the first time next weekend, hosting three teams in the Michelle Short/Adam Brown Tournament. The Bears will play four games over the weekend, including twice against Big 12 foe Oklahoma State.
