CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team dropped its final regular season match at Lipscomb on Saturday, but still secured the No. 2 seed in the ASUN Gold Division despite the result.
The Bears end the regular season 4-9-2 overall and 3-2-1 in ASUN play. Kyle Schwarz logged the lone goal for the Bears, scoring his first collegiate goal.
Both sides had looks early in the game, with shots on goal from
Vaclav Kozeny and
Kaisei Matsudo before the ten-minute mark. Despite the looks, Lipscomb was able to counter and drive down the field, scoring its first goal in the 11
th minute.
Lucas Shearer nearly equalized in the 21
st minute, but his shot was saved by the Lipscomb keeper. Four minutes later, Lipscomb scored again, taking a 2-0 lead that would hold until halftime. The Bisons outshot the Bears 15-8 in the first half, but the Bears were still in striking distance as the clocks hit :00 in the first.
And for a while in the second half, the offense seemed to be picking up.
Aby Gomez found Schwartz inside the box, and after a perfect finish, the Bears were on the board.
But Lipscomb answered almost immediately, reestablishing the two-goal lead just two minutes later. The Bisons would press on from there, adding to the lead until the final whistle. Central Arkansas now looks ahead to the postseason, where the Bears will be the No. 2 seed out of the ASUN Gold Division.
