CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears came up short on Sunday afternoon, falling in straight sets (25–20, 25–20, 26–24) to Eastern Kentucky inside the Prince Center.
Despite a late rally in the third frame, UCA (10–10, 7–3 ASUN) couldn't overcome the hot-hitting Colonels (15–7, 7–3 ASUN), who posted an impressive .389 team hitting percentage.
Laci Bohannan led the Sugar Bears with 9 kills, while Samantha Cousins and Greyson Button each added 8. Button was efficient at the net with a .375 hitting clip, while McKinzee Haas contributed 6 kills and 3 block assists. Setter Caylan Koons dished out 20 assists, and Alexis McDaniel anchored the defense with 17 digs and a pair of aces.
Eastern Kentucky's attack was led by AG Hynes with 12 kills and Emilee Hill with 11, combining for just three errors between them. The Colonels' offensive balance proved too much, with four players hitting above .400 on the afternoon.
After dropping the first two sets, UCA fought back in the third and tied the score 12 times, but EKU closed on a late run to secure the sweep.
The Sugar Bears will look to bounce back next week as ASUN play continue as they head to North Alabama.
