CARROLLTON, Ga. – The Central Arkansas Sugar Bears extended their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, taking down West Georgia 3–1 (25–19, 22–25, 25–19, 26–24) inside The Coliseum to earn their seventh ASUN Conference victory of the season.
The Sugar Bears (10–8, 7–1 ASUN) continued their strong conference stretch behind a balanced offensive attack and solid play at the net, out-blocking the Wolves (2–19, 0–8 ASUN) by an 11–8 margin while hitting .220 as a team.
Junior outside hitter Laci Bohannan paced the Sugar Bears with a match-high 18 kills to go along with 10 digs, recording her sixth double-double of the season. McKinzee Haas followed with 13 kills on .667 hitting, while Gabby Tuiaana chipped in nine kills and four block assists. Greyson Button added five kills and led all players with seven total blocks.
Setter Caylan Koons dished out 46 assists and posted seven digs and four block assists, while Alexis McDaniel anchored the defense with a team-high 16 digs and three service aces. UCA tallied seven aces on the day, compared to just two for West Georgia.
The Sugar Bears took the opening set 25–19 before the Wolves responded with a narrow 25–22 win in set two. Central Arkansas regrouped quickly, dominating the third frame 25–19 and closing the match with a hard-fought 26–24 victory in the fourth.
West Georgia was led by Grace-Blythe Cornett with 17 kills, followed by Valiree Schmus with 16 and Molly Brunell with 10.
With the win, Central Arkansas improves to 7–1 in ASUN play and continues to sit near the top of the league standings.
The Sugar Bears return home this week to host Bellarmine on Oct. 24 at 6 p.m. with the theme being Nightmare on Bruce Street. and EKU on Oct. 26th at 1 p.m. with the theme being Pink Out. Come out and Pack the Prince Center for your Sugar Bears.
