CONWAY, Ark. – With just a few games left in the regular season, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team is fortunate with the way the schedule broke this year, playing the last three at home as the Bears race for the ASUN Championship. First up, the Bears will face Bellarmine on Thursday, kicking off against the Knights at 7 p.m.
The Bears (4-8-2, 1-4-2 ASUN) are heading down the stretch in need of some results. With three games left on the schedule, the Bears are one point out of the ASUN Championship right now, but have a great chance against Bellarmine on Thursday. With a win, Central Arkansas would jump the Knights by two points with two games left, and even with a draw, the Bears would hold a tiebreaker over Bellarmine after defeating them in September.
And the time to strike is now; the Knights have lost four of their last five, including three-straight. Bellarmine hasn't been able to score more than once in any of the last five matches, while allowing multiple scores in four of the last five. Last time the Bears and Knights met, Central Arkansas won 3-1, with goals from
Caroline Billings,
Lea Duus Madsen and
Trace Pavatt.
Bellarmine 8-4-2 (2-4 ASUN) were on a roll before meeting the Bears on September 28
th, having won eight games and a 2-1 start to conference play. But two weeks later, the Knights have last back-to-back games and been outscored 8-2. Leading scorer Lucy von Stefenelli has not scored since September 18
th, but the Knights have leaned on McKenzie Carle's three goals in four games.
Kickoff against the Knights is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. As always, admittance is free.
