CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Despite outshooting the Royals, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision on the road.
The Bears drop to 4-4 on the year and 1-1 in conference play. Central Arkansas outshot the Royals 19-11, with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, but couldn't find a score.
Josh Baros almost got the scoring for the Bears right out of the gates, hitting a shot on goal in the sixth minute. Baros' attempt made the early minutes of the game feel pretty typical of a Bears match, with Central Arkansas putting early scores in the net. But instead, it was Queens who found the early score, notching one in the tenth minute.
Charles Brunet nearly answered just a minute later, but his shot was also saved by the Queens keeper. The Bears continued to put shots up, but just couldn't get one past the keeper. At the end of the first half, Central Arkansas had a 10-4 advantage in shots, but the 1-0 lead held for the home team.
The teams continued to go at it in the second half, with the first 15 minutes nearly even in shots. Central Arkansas had a flurry in the mid-60s, putting up four shots in the span of two and a half minutes, with two on goal, but the Queens defense was able to keep the Bears scoreless. After the quick exchange, Central Arkansas would struggle to find more shots, only taking two the rest of the match, and both missing the target.
The Bears will try to regroup at home for their next match, facing off with the defending champion Lipscomb on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex.
