CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team plays its first road ASUN game of the season on Sunday, facing ASUN newcomer West Georgia on Sunday. Kickoff against the Wolves is set for 12 p.m. in Carrollton, Georgia.
The Bears started the conference part of the schedule 1-0 after a huge come from behind win on Thursday. Down two goals early, Central Arkansas rallied for three-straight, including the game-winner with 11 seconds left, to steal a win from the Royals.
Kelly Van Gundy got the Bears going in the 27
th minute, and a
Caroline Billings header evened the score before halftime.
Anna Kerr combined with
Sophia Backstrom in the final seconds for the win, the freshman's third goal of the year.
Backstrom and Van Gundy are the two multi-goal scorers on roster this season, with each player adding one to the tally on Thursday. The Bears have scored six times in the last two games breaking an early-season scoring drought in a big way.
West Georgia made the leap to Division I this season, joining the ASUN from the Gulf South Conference. The Wolves have started this season 1-6, dropping their ASUN opener against North Alabama, falling 3-0. The lone win of the season for West Georgia was a 2-1 win over Alabama State.
The Wolves have five scorers this season, each player scoring one goal for West Georgia. In goal, Siani Jones has a team-high 501 minutes between the posts, making 21 saves while allowing 13 goals.
