CONWAY, Ark. – Central Arkansas (4-8, 1-0 ASUN) closed their Central Arkansas Invitiational campaign in commanding fashion, sweeping Jackson State (4-7, 0-0 SWAC) in three sets at the Prince Center on Saturday afternoon. The Sugar Bears prevailed 26-24, 25-19, 25-4, backed by a strong team effort and clinical performance on both ends of the court.
After a tightly contested first set, which featured 13 tie scores and 9 lead changes, the Sugar Bears emerged with a narrow 26-24 win.
Mackenzie Vernon and
Laci Bohannan led the offensive charge, each recording 8 kills. Vernon hit an impressive .375, while Bohannan contributed at a .273 clip.
In the second set, Central Arkansas began to pull away, securing a 25-19 victory.
Regan Harp's consistent play helped pace the team, as she tallied 9 kills overall despite some errors early on.
Allison Holloway was a force at the net, with a match-leading .625 hitting percentage, and
Greyson Button added 8 kills while also making key defensive contributions with 3 blocks.
The third set was nothing short of domination, as the Sugar Bears raced to a 25-4 win. Central Arkansas capitalized on Jackson State's struggles, holding them to a negative hitting percentage as the Lady Tigers mustered only 2 kills and committed 12 errors. Meanwhile, the Sugar Bears finished with an efficient .526 hitting percentage in the set.
Caylan Koons orchestrated the offense beautifully with 29 assists, while
Alexis McDaniel and
Alexa Carranza anchored the back row with 8 digs each. The defense held strong, particularly at the net, where the team combined for 16 blocks, including 5 from Holloway.
With this win, the Sugar Bears pick up their fourth victory of the season and begin their conference play on a high note. They will look to build on this momentum in their next matchup September 28th at North Florida at 5PM.
