Women's Soccer Set for Battle of the Bears at Missouri State

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team hits the road for its next outing, heading north to the Show Me State to face Missouri State on Sunday. Kickoff against the other Bears is set for 1 p.m. at the Betty & Bobby Allison South Stadium.

Central Arkansas has struggled to get games in this season, completing only two matches, and only one in its regularly scheduled time. On Thursday, lightning halted the Bears' match against Arkansas State at halftime, leaving the team with still only two results.

But the squad is seeing some more experience despite the lack of results, with freshmen Sophia Backstrom and Ashlyn May getting a start and quality minutes alongside the first team. Backstrom's goal against Tulsa was the first of her career and the first of the season for the Bears.

Missouri State enters the weekend 1-2-1, most recently falling to No. 19 Saint Louis on Thursday. Their lone win of the season, and lone score, came against Tulsa, a 1-0 win over the Golden Hurricane. Julia Kristensen notched the score against Tulsa, after the Bears outshot Tulsa 24-11.

But despite the lack of goals, the Bears are putting shots on goal at a 54.8 percent clip. Six players have five or more shots, and nearly all of them are putting them on frame at a 50 percent clip or better.

Sunday's match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online. Kickoff against the Bears is set for 1 p.m.
