BEARS DROP ONE-RUN GAME TO EAGLES

FORT MYERS, Fla. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears out-hit the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles for the second consecutive day but dropped a 7-6 decision in Game 2 of their ASUN Conference series on Saturday at Swanson Stadium.

The Bears (13-17, 4-7) had two different leads in the game, the first at 4-0 in the second inning and then again at 6-4 in the fourth inning. But the Eagles (14-14, 7-4) scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.

UCA got a pair of home runs, a two-run shot from center fielder Drew Sturgeon in the first inning, and another two-run blast from first baseman A.J. Mendolia in the fourth inning. Mendolia, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, finished 4 for 5 with a home run and double, along with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.

Shortstop Mason King went 2 for 4, while second baseman Tanner Leonard scored twice.

UCA reliever Charlie Christensen struck out six in 5.2 innings but also allowed the final three Eagles' runs.

The series finale is set for noon (CST) Sunday.
