FORT MYERS, Fla. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears out-hit the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles for the second consecutive day but dropped a 7-6 decision in Game 2 of their ASUN Conference series on Saturday at Swanson Stadium.
The Bears (13-17, 4-7) had two different leads in the game, the first at 4-0 in the second inning and then again at 6-4 in the fourth inning. But the Eagles (14-14, 7-4) scored three runs in the seventh to take the lead for good.
UCA got a pair of home runs, a two-run shot from center fielder
Drew Sturgeon in the first inning, and another two-run blast from first baseman
A.J. Mendolia in the fourth inning. Mendolia, a senior from Fort Worth, Texas, finished 4 for 5 with a home run and double, along with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Shortstop
Mason King went 2 for 4, while second baseman
Tanner Leonard scored twice.
UCA reliever
Charlie Christensen struck out six in 5.2 innings but also allowed the final three Eagles' runs.Â
