CONWAY, Ark. – The last midweek of the season did not go according to plan for the Central Arkansas softball team, who dropped a Tuesday decision to the Razorbacks.
After honoring former head coach and current Senior Women's Administrator Natalie Shock and naming the softball stadium in her honor in front of over 2,100 fans, the Bears were unable to ride the wave to an upset win. The loss moved Central Arkansas to 23-25 on the season, with three regular season games left before the ASUN Championship.
The Bears and Hogs battled to a quick first inning, with neither side producing more than a single hit. But Arkansas struck in the second inning, plating four runs to take an early lead.
Kennedy Fisher responded with a double in the home half of the inning, but with two outs, the Bears couldn't move her around from there.
Arkansas added two more in the fourth inning, bumping the deficit to six runs.
McKayla Betts took a two-out walk in the fifth to try to spark some life, but the lineup behind her was unable to make anything happen. The Bears' best offensive inning came in the sixth, with a single by
Renee Christian and a walk from
Tremere Harris to put a runner in scoring position, but again, the offense just couldn't move runners. Christian's single added to an already impressive on-base streak, bumping it to 16-straight games.
Central Arkansas has one series left this weekend, hosting Bellarmine for Senior Weekend. The Bears will celebrate the legacies of
Morgan Nelson and
Tremere Harris, who both finish their careers in Purple and Gray after this season. The series opens on Friday with a 6:45 first pitch against the Knights.
