CONWAY, Ark. – Wednesday night proved to be quite the success for the Central Arkansas softball team, as the Bears took a 9-0 win over the Golden Lions. The Bears jumped out early, scoring all nine runs in the first two innings.
The win improves Central Arkansas to 14-21, and adds another win to the Bears' winning streak, which reached six with the triumph. Seven Bears tallied hits in the win, and added eight baserunners via walks.
Kylie Griffin led the Bears off with a single and a steal, and
Renee Christian did the exact same thing, moving Griffin to third.
Tremere Harris walked to load the bases, and
Lilly Hood drove in the first run on the next at bat.
Morgan Nelson boosted the lead to three with a double down the left field line, and
Gracie St. Hilaire and
McKayla Betts reloaded the bases.
Kennedy Fisher drew a walk of her own, which drove in the fourth run of the afternoon.
Christian walked to open the second inning and stole a base, and Harris dropped a bunt to get on base again. A throwing error on the Golden Lions allowed Christian to score from second, and Hood followed it up with a triple to send Harris home. Back-to-back walks loaded the bases, and Bare flew out for a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0. An RBI groundout and a Fisher single up the middle added the final two runs of the game.
Bailie Runner and
Julia Petty split the shutout, allowing just a single hit while striking out five. The pair tossed just 71 total pitches between them, earning the team's third shutout of the season.
The Bears were also dynamite on the basepaths, stealing eight bases. Christian stole three, becoming the 27
th Bear to swipe exactly three bases in a game. Griffin, Harris,
Tallulah Pascucci, St. Hilaire, and Fisher all stole a base of their own.
Central Arkansas returns to the field in Charlotte, N.C., this weekend, taking on Queens for the first time in program history. First pitch against the Royals is set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
