ATLANTA, Ga. – After a quality season on the course, two Bears were named to the ASUN's All-Conference teams.
Madison Holmes was named to the league's second team, and
Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir was named to the conference's all-freshman team.
"I am very excited for Madison and Gudrun to add these two honors to cap off their great seasons. For Madison to be one of the top players in the conference this year shows her quality from start to finish," Head coach Summar Roachell said of the pair. "She continued to find a way to piece together solid rounds week after week. I applaud her ability to stick to our process and the results are a direct result of that commitment to excellence,"
Holmes was named to the Second Team All-ASUN after leading the Bears with a 74.0 stroke average over 26 rounds. She finished in the top-20 five times, including three top-10 finishes. Her best finish was a second-place finish at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic, where Holmes finished with a 5-under 211. She had nine rounds under par, including a personal-best 68. Holmes also placed ninth at the ASUN Championships for the second-straight season, claiming another top-10 spot in the ASUN Tournament.
"Gudrun earned her way into the lineup mid-season and was a steady figure for us the rest of the year. She is a true competitor that is not afraid of the big moments. From day one until now we have seen tremendous growth and maturity in her game." Roachell added about Thorsteinsdottir.
The freshman earned the nod after posting a stroke average of 76.10 in 20 rounds. Thorsteinsdottir made a splash in her second-ever tournament, placing sixth at the Diamante Intercollegiate with a 7-under 209. Over the course of seven tournaments, she posted five rounds under par, including a season-best 69. She made the top-20 three times, two of which were top-10 finishes.
"I am proud of the way both Madison and Gudrun represent our program and the university each week. They embody everything we want our program to be," Roachell added. "This is just the beginning for the both of them and I am excited to see their continued growth as they strive for more moving forward. Both Madison and Gudrun will be returning next year and will provide a high level of leadership for our team."
