Softball Sweeps Lipscomb in ASUN Series

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The offense continued to churn on Sunday, as the Central Arkansas softball team finished off the sweep of Lipscomb. The 12-0 run capped an excellent weekend for the Bears, who outscored the Bisons 30-1 across three games.

Central Arkansas improved to 20-24 overall with an 11-7 conference record. After winning head coach Jenny Parsons' 100th game in Purple and Gray in game one, the Bears continued to roll through Sunday's game. The Bears hit a pair of home runs, including a grand slam, stole seven bases and drew nine walks.

Morgan Nelson got the scoring started in the second inning, taking the first pitch of the inning and launching it dead center for her third home run of the series. She would add to the lead in the third, driving in Tremere Harris on a sharply hit single.

The Bears really got unleashed in the fifth, as Renee Christian and Kylie Griffin both walked. Harris got hit by a pitch, and the bases were loaded without a ball being put in play. Hood drove in a run, and Griffin scored on a steal home. Nelson walked, and both pinch runners (Tallulah Pascucci and Amiyah Collier) stole a base, moving to second and third. Gracie St. Hilaire sent both runners home with a double, breaking the lead open to six runs.

In the sixth inning, Christian got on base with a walk, and immediately stole second. Griffin lasered a single to right field, which scored Christian from second base. Then in the seventh, the bats kept moving, as Nelson and St. Hilaire got on base. McKayla Betts got on base on a fielder's choice, replacing St. Hilaire as Nelson moved to third. Bailie Runner send in her first RBI after hitting to score Nelson, and Kennedy Fisher walked to load the bases. In came Christian, walking to the plate with four RBI all season. Working her way to a full count, the freshman speedster connected on one and set it deep to right field, clearing the fence for her first-career home run, a grand slam, putting the Bears up 12.

Petty slammed the door shut after striking out the final batter of the game, her seventh K of the day, to clinch her second shutout of the series. Her two outings both resulted in scoreless efforts, totaling nine strikeouts in 12.0 innings of work. The sweep moves Central Arkansas to 8-1 all-time against Lipscomb, including sweeps in each of the last two series.

Central Arkansas is on the road again next week, at Kennesaw State for a three-game slate on Saturday and Sunday.
