BEARS COMPLETE SWEEP WITH 6-3 WIN OVER KNIGHTS

CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears completed the sweep Sunday, beating the Bellarmine Knights 6-3 in ASUN action at Bear Stadium.

The Bears won a key league series to improve to 7-11 in ASUN play by tying their season high with 15 hits. Sophomore right fielder Kade Seldomridge and freshman left fielder Zeb Allen led the way with three hits apiece, while senior center fielder Drew Sturgeon added a pair of hits.

Allen, Seldomridge and junior second baseman Tanner Leonard all had two RBI.

UCA fell behind 2-0 in the first inning but then scored in five consecutive innings from the third through seventh innings. UCA graduate Mason Griffin (6-3) earned the victory with 1 2/3 innings of relief, while sophomore Hunter Alexander earned his third save in as many games on the weekend.

Alexander, a sophomore transfer from UA-Rich Mountain, allowed just one hit and no runs over the final 12/3 innings for his fifth save of the season.

The Bears answered Bellarmine's early lead with single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Leonard had a sacrifice fly in the third, Allen had an RBI single in the fourth and Seldomridge added an RBI single up the middle in the fifth.

After the Knights tied it back up at 3-3 in the top of the sixth, UCA took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Leonard's RBI single scored Allen and Seldomridge's RBI single brought in Leonard.

In the seventh, Allen added another RBI base hit to make it a three-run advantage.
