LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis team got a big road win on Saturday morning, downing Bellarmine in dominant fashion. The Bears rebounded from a tough home loss on Thursday, evening their ASUN record to 3-3 and improving their record on the season to 11-9.
The Bears got back on track when it came to doubles play, as Seohyun Park and Konmi Miyakawa got the Bears on the board with a nice 6-2 win over Bellarmine's No. 3 pair. Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Sumomo Hamanaga secured the early point as the Bears have done so many times recently, winning 6-3.
Vimuktananda didn't stop with a big doubles win, as she was dominant in the first set and fended off the Knights' No. 1 singles player 7-5 in the second set on her way to her 13th singles win on the season. Hamanaga rebounded nicely from Thursday, winning her seventh match of the season, and fourth in the last six matches. Ting-An Chen has been playing well in the No. 3 spot for the Bears recently, and that trend continued on Saturday morning, as she beat Grosso 6-2, 6-2. Harune Shigemasu has also been playing better as of late, as she fought back in the third set after losing the second, winning her ninth match of her freshman campaign. Miyakawa won her first match since late February at Lane College, and she did it in fairly dominant fashion, winning the first set 6-1.
UCA is now a perfect 3-0 against Bellarmine, winning in each of its three seasons in the ASUN, which has included wins in Louisville the past two seasons.
UCA will be back at the UCA Tennis Courts next weekend against Lipscomb on Friday, April 5th at 11:00 a.m. and North Alabama on Sunday, April 7th at 10:00 a.m. To keep up with the Bears all season long, follow @UCATennis on Twitter/X.
