CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis team spun out of their hot streak a little bit on early Thursday afternoon against the Austin Peay Governors. The Bears now fall to 10-9 on the season with a 2-3 ASUN record.
One thing that has clicked for the Bears in recent matches has been doubles play, as the team had been much better early in matches. Unfortunately for the Bears, The Govs were able to get the upper hand very fast and made quick work of UCA.
Ting-An Chen got off to a red hot start in her match, but Bruns in the No. 6 spot for the Govs rushed back, coming back from a deficit in the second set and dominated the tiebreak. Sumomo Hamanaga fought back after losing the first set 6-2, winning the second 7-5. Unfortunately for Hamanaga, Baranov fought back from a 5-1 deficit in the tiebreak to win the third set 12-10. The Govs will stay put at third place in the ASUN, while the Bears remain tied for sixth at the moment. The Governors now hold a 5-2 lead in the series all time, as APSU has won in back-to-back seasons in Conway.
UCA will look to get back to .500 in ASUN play on Saturday, March 30th as they head up to Louisville, Kentucky to take on the Bellarmine Knights at 9:00 a.m.
