CONWAY, Ark. – The University of Central Arkansas tennis program was utterly dominant in its second conference win in as many days. The win over Queens lifts UCA to 2-2 in the ASUN and improves the Bears' record to 10-8 on the season.
UCA continued its run in doubles play as Vichitraporn Vimuktananda and Sumomo Hamanaga cruised to a 6-1 doubles victory. Not long after, the pair of Konomi Miyakawa and Seohyun Park matched the No. 1 pair with a 6-1 victory of their own, swiftly giving the Bears a 1-0 lead.
Hamanaga started UCA out with a swift two-set win over the No. 3 for the Royals in Onitoiu. Ting-An Chen and Park each stepped up as Miyakawa took singles play off, and they each had dominant second set victories. Shigemasu found herself behind after taking the first set in dominant fashion, and was able to battle back and win the second set, 6-3. Nanoka Kazama had to fight to get a win in the first set in the No. 2 spot, but then cruised to victory in the second set for the icing on the cake.
The Bears continue conference play next weekend as they host the Austin Peay Governors on Thursday, March 28th at 11:00 a.m. Then on Saturday, March 30th, the Bears will pay a visit to the Bellarmine Knights at 10:00 a.m. To keep up with all things UCA tennis, follow @UCATennis on Twitter/X.
