NEW ORLEANS, La. – Madison Holmes put together a terrific round of golf to start the Tulane Classic Presented by Chad Brownstein, ending the day in first place after 18 holes. She helped Central Arkansas finish in the top ten after the first round on Sunday, with a team score of 304.
Holmes is in a tie for first place after a 2-under 70 through her first 18, putting in five birdies and finishing just three over par. The junior is tied for tournament-lead with her five birdies, one of three players to sink a handful on Sunday.
Valeria Ramirez capped her day inside the top-20, finishing with a 2-over 74. The Colombia native was even at the turn, finishing all nine holes at par.
Ayami Takahashi penciled in two birdies, including one on 18, to finish her first round with a 78. After a tough front nine, the junior transfer found her stroke, rounding out the back nine at +1. Pim-orn Thitisup shot an 82 on Sunday, birdieing the 12
th hole. Similar to Takahashi,
Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir had a tough front nine, but recovered nicely in the back half of the course, going +1 on the final nine holes of the round.
Notre Dame holds the top spot after Sunday's play, trailed closely by Missouri and Cal Poly. Holmes is in a four-way tie for first place, even with Notre Dame's Lauren Beaudreau and Chloe Schiavone and Texas State's Marine Griffaut.
