Softball Falls in Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic Opener

CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas softball team opened the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic with a loss to Chattanooga Saturday afternoon.

The 5-0 final was largely due to a pair of errors on the Bears, resulting in three of the runs scored. The loss drops Central Arkansas to 4-11 on the season, with three more games left in the Adam Brown.

Both teams had just a single baserunner in the first inning, but neither side could move around the bases. The Mocs broke through in the second inning, pairing a double and a single with an error on the Bears to score a run. Chattanooga loaded the bases later in the inning, but Bailie Runner and the defense were able to get out of trouble.

Chattanooga added two more runs in the third, finding a double with one out and two on. Julia Petty came in at pitcher, recording two outs in the next three batters. But the Central Arkansas offense just couldn't get anything going. Tremere Harris smacked a hit in the bottom of the fourth, but the lineup after her couldn't get her going.

Central Arkansas would hold the Mocs until the fifth, but the Mocs pushed through two more runs in the sixth. Leading off with two singles and a sac bunt, Chattanooga had runners in scoring position with just one out. An error on a sac fly allowed two runs to score and the runner to safely reach base.  The Bears threatened in the home half of the sixth, opening the frame with a walk from Emma Veach. But two outs later, despite a pinch-running Tallulah Pascucci stealing second and moving into scoring position, the Bears couldn't finish the job and bring her home.

The Bears have three games remaining this weekend, playing Chattanooga tomorrow at 1:30 before facing St. Francis at 4 p.m.
