CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas softball team hosts its second tournament of the year this weekend, hosting the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic from Friday to Sunday. The Bears will bring in Chattanooga and Saint Francis for a six-game tournament, starting on Friday at 4 p.m.
 
The Bears play this tournament in honor of Adam Brown, who attended Central Arkansas in the late 90's. He became a Navy SEAL and was a member of SEAL Team Six, before being killed in action hunting a high-level Taliban target.
 
Central Arkansas (4-10) went 2-2 in its first home tournament, the Michelle Short Memorial Classic. After dropping games to Purdue and South Dakota State, the Bears battled back for wins against Southern Illinois and the rematch against the Jackrabbits.
 
The Bears hit .275 over the four home games, with five Bears hitting above .350, led by Renee Christian's .417. The freshman tallied five hits, including a double and a triple, leading the team in hits and total bases. Tremere Harris hit .400 with five walks and no strikeouts, and is one of three Bears with more walks than strikeouts this season. The senior outfielder was also a gem defensively, pulling in 13 putouts with zero errors in centerfield.
 
On the year, Kylie Griffin's .395 batting average leads the team, and her .477 on base percentage does as well. Her 3-for-4 day against South Dakota State was her first three-hit game of the season, and gave her a hit in ten of the 14 games this season.
 
The pitching tandem of Bailie Runner and Julia Petty also showed some improvement playing at home, putting together a team ERA of 3.50 through the first four games, compared to a 4.52 from the Bears' opponents. The pair gave up just six extra base hits, limiting most batters to a single, if anything. Petty had ten strikeouts across three appearances, picking up both wins over the weekend.
 
Chattanooga is 9-7 after three weekends, having most recently gone 3-2 at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga. After winning two of the first three games last weekend by a combined score of 13-5, the Mocs dropped their final two games to Ohio and UT Martin by a combined 9-0.
 
Kendall Forsythe leads the team with a .405 batting average, and is top-three on the team with 15 hits, two doubles, a triple and ten RBI. She is one of eight Mocs to steal a base this season, and has a perfect fielding percentage in 40 chances. In the circle, Riley Lamb has a team-best 3.29 ERA, despite having an 0-2 record. Taylor Long leads the team with 41 strikeouts, and has five wins this season.
 
Saint Francis is 11-4 after last week's run at the Liberty Softball Classic. The Red Flash dropped three games to Penn State and Liberty before picking up a pair of wins against Penn and Morgan State.
 
Pitching has been the strength of the Red Flash, with a team ERA of 1.50 coming into the weekend. Saint Francis has two pitchers, Grace Vesco and Rachel Marsden, who have over 40 innings each, and the duo has combined for 76 strikeouts while only allowing 46 hits. The pair is responsible for ten of the team's 11 wins, and each pitcher has a shutout this year.
