Women's Soccer Hosts Bellarmine in Sunday Showdown

CONWAY, Ark. – Still unbeaten in ASUN matches, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team looks to defend home field on Sunday, hosting Bellarmine at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex. Kickoff against the Knights is set for 1 p.m.

The Bears (5-5-1, 4-0-1 ASUN) extended their streak of unbeaten games to six on Thursday, downing the EKU Colonels 1-0 at home. A pretty equal match all round, it was a Kelly Van Gundy PK in the 65th minute that earned Central Arkansas its fifth win of the season.

Not so coincidentally, it was Van Gundy's fifth goal of the season. The senior midfielder has scored in all five victories this season, and she leads the team with 11 total points this year. It also marks a streak of five goals in six games for the Flower Mound, Texas native, who ranks second in the league in goals during ASUN matches (4).

Kajsa Pruner was terrific again against the Colonels, picking up her second shutout of the season after making five saves. Thursday marked her fifth game making five or more saves, and her 13th career win in goal.

In three meetings with Bellarmine, the Bears have never lost to the Knights. Sitting at 2-0-1, Central Arkansas has only ever allowed one goal to the Knights, back in 2022 in a 1-1 draw. Last season, Van Gundy combined with Megan Moudy as the two goal scorers in a 2-0 shutout in Conway.

Bellarmine makes the trip with a 3-7-2 record, sitting at 2-2-1 in ASUN games. The Knights picked up wins over Stetson and North Alabama since the start of ASUN matches, downing the Lions 1-0 last time out. Campbell Tippy logged the game-winner, punching it home in the 73rd minute of the match.

The score marked Tippy's second of the season, making her one of four Bellarmine players to log multiple goals this season. They are led in scoring by Emma Nicholson, who has six goals and three assists in 2024. Four of her goals came in a win over DIII Asbury, with her two other goals coming against Southern Indiana and Stetson.

Kickoff against Bellarmine is set for 1 p.m. on Sunday. With volleyball happening at the same time in the Prince Center, there will be no stream of the match. Live stats will still be available online. As always, admission to Central Arkansas soccer is free.
