CONWAY, Ark. – One last regular season game for the Central Arkansas women's soccer team, as the Bears play North Alabama. Kickoff against the Lions is set for 1 p.m. in Florence, Alabama.
The Bears dropped their first ASUN match of the season last time out, falling 2-1 at Florida Gulf Coast. The match was a duel for potentially the No. 1 seed in the ASUN, and puts the Bears at the No. 2 seed headed into the final weekend. Central Arkansas still has a path to the No. 1 seed, but it'll require some help. If the Bears defeat the Lions and the Eagles lose their last game, the Bears will jump back into the top spot.
Central Arkansas has gotten offense from several sources this season, with six multi-goal scorers this season.
Kelly Van Gundy leads the team with eight goals, setting a new career-high after eclipsing her goal total from last year. Freshman
Sophia Backstrom and sophomore
Caroline Billings each have four goals, making major impacts early in their careers.
Anna Kerr has three goals and is tied for team-lead with three assists, and
Brianna Lopez adds two goals and three assists of her own.
Since joining the ASUN, Central Arkansas is 2-0-1 against the Lions, earning a 0-0 draw last season. Van Gundy scored in the 2022 meeting, one of three goals that day by the Bears.
North Alabama enters the final weekend of the regular season 3-13, with a 1-9 conference record. After winning their conference opener against West Georgia, the Lions have dropped nine-straight, getting shut-out in seven of those matches.
Most recently, it was a 2-1 loss at Stetson, scoring a PK in the final 65 seconds. The Lions have scored just ten goals this season, led by Giada Aldini's three, two of which are by PK. In goal, Allanah Blue has played 1,273 minutes in the net, allowing 30 goals while making 56 saves.
Kickoff against North Alabama is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available as well.
