CONWAY, Ark. – The Central Arkansas men's soccer team has one more home match this season, hosting Florida Gulf Coast on Friday for Senior Day. After honoring the outgoing class of student-athletes, kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex.
The Bears (5-6-2, 2-2-1 ASUN) put another point on the table last time out, drawing against Stetson in a tough road match. After surrendering a goal right before half, Central Arkansas evened the score in the 78
th on a
Tajio James header, served up from
Sohma Ichikawa.
The goal marked the third for James, who now is tied for team-lead with
Pietro Fontana. Ichikawa notched his fourth assist, and is second to only
Devonte Richards' five.
Javier Ramirez held yet another team to one or fewer goals, and has allowed fewer than two scores in nine matches this season.
Prior to kickoff on Friday, the Bears will honor their senior class, with nine players in the group. They represent a group of student-athletes that have come together over the course of the last four seasons and helped lead Central Arkansas to a pair of ASUN Championship matches and over 25 wins. The Bears that will walk on Friday helped the team make the jump to the ASUN, and have performed admirably in the new conference, never losing more than twice in an ASUN schedule.
Central Arkansas and the Eagles have played three times since joining the ASUN, with the Bears holding a 1-0-2 series lead. Last season's 1-1 tie saw Fontana notch a goal in the 62
nd minute, tying the game for the final 28 minutes of action.
The team lining up opposite the Bears is FGCU. Holding a 3-7-2 record and a 2-1-1 ASUN slate, the Eagles picked up a second ASUN win last time out after defeating Lipscomb 2-0 in Fort Myers. FGCU is 3-2-1 at home this season, and 0-5-1 on the road.
FGCU is led offensively by Shoki Yoshida, who has three goals in 11 matches this season. He is one of ten Eagles to score a goal this season, but is one of only three to score multiple times this year.
Kickoff against the Eagles is set for 6 p.m. on Friday. Due to a time conflict with Central Arkansas volleyball, the game will not be streamed. Instead, live stats will be available online.
