CONWAY, Ark. – After a stellar opening game to conference play, junior guard Jade Upshaw was named the ASUN's Newcomer of the Week. Upshaw claims her first weekly award as a Sugar Bear, and the first of the season for Central Arkansas.
 
Upshaw was a key piece in the win over North Alabama, posting 13 points and a career-high ten rebounds. The double-double was the first of her career, and came at a perfect time for Central Arkansas, who won its first conference opener since joining the ASUN. Upshaw also added three steals, her fifth game of the season with multiple steals.
 
The Sapulpa, Okla., native has been one of the high-performing newcomers on the Sugar Bears this season, averaging 11.4 points per game and ranking second on the team with 26 three-pointers. Upshaw's 40 percent clip from distance is among the top in the ASUN.
 
Upshaw and the Sugar Bears continue conference games this week, playing Lipscomb and Austin Peay at home on Thursday and Saturday, respectively. Tip-off against the Bisons is set for 5 p.m., and the game against the Governors is set for 1 p.m.
