Women's Golf's Holmes Finishes Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Second Place

Holmes Hits Program's Second-Ever Hole in One on Tuesday

WOLCOTT, Colo. – Central Arkansas wrapped up the Golfweek Red Sky Classic making a bit of history, as Madison Holmes battled for the top spot for 18 holes, eventually taking second place. It marks a career-best finish for the junior, who finished with three-straight rounds under par. The Bears finished sixth, moving up two spots on the final day.

"I am so proud of Madison and how she played this week, she was in complete control from start to finish. It is a testament to the work she put in after our last event. To go out and shoot under par when leading the tournament shows the type of competitor she is," head coach Summar Roachell said of Holmes. "Madison is a leader on our team and makes everyone around her better. I know she will continue to help elevate our team even higher."

In addition to her spectacular finish, Holmes also hit the second-ever hole in one in program history, firing one on the 192-yard ninth hole. It helped her tally a third-straight round scoring under par, finishing with a 2-under 70 to end the event with a 5-under 211, good for a second-place finish. Valeria Ramirez played her best round of golf on Tuesday, ending her third round with a 2-over 74 for a final score of 227. The sophomore added two more birdies to her total, totaling seven across three rounds.

Pim-Orn Thitisup recovered spectacularly after a slow start to Tuesday's round, finishing her final 13 holes with three birdies and no bogeys, ending the day at 1-over 73 for a three-round score of 230. Camila Moreno turned in a 4-over 76, rounding out a 230 after 54 holes of golf. The senior added four birdies to her scorecard. Ayami Takahashi tallied four birdies on her final 18, completing her round with a 4-over 76. The freshman had five of her six total birdies on the front nine, the most birdies across the first nine holes for any Bear.

Holmes was one of three out of 89 total golfers to be even or better across all three distances, finishing even on par three holes, 2-under across par fours, and 3-under on par fives.

Pepperdine took home first place after three rounds, finishing ten strokes ahead of second place New Mexico State. Kennesaw State rounded out the top three, moving up from sixth place after finishing Tuesday as one of two teams to shoot under par. Holmes was edged out by two strokes by New Mexico State's Alison Gastelum, and three golfers finished in a tie for third.

Central Arkansas is back on the course on October 16th, taking part in the Lady Red Wolves Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. The Bears took home last season's crown, with Holmes finishing in the top-10.
