Women's Soccer Falls to Tulsa to Close Nonconference Play

CONWAY, Ark. – Battling a sunny Sunday and an aggressive Tulsa squad, the Bears fell 2-0 at home to close nonconference play. Despite a second half push, the women's soccer team couldn't find an answer for the Golden Hurricane.

The loss drops the Bears to 1-5-2 to close nonconference play, and the Golden Hurricane were aggressive from the onset, pressuring up top and taking the first shot of the game in the sixth minute. Tulsa would continue to press for the early portion of the game, until a counter attack by the Bears earned a corner kick in the 16th. Sydney Brough received a shot in front of the goal from the corner, but her shot was right in front of the keeper, who was able to stay in front. Brough would lead the Bears in attempts, taking three shots and putting two on frame.

Back and forth the teams went through the first half, with Tulsa holding possession slightly longer than Central Arkansas, certainly taking more shots. Outshooting the Bears 12-3, Tulsa was able to put the first goal on the board in the 40th minute, striking right before halftime.

Pressure would continue to be applied to the Central Arkansas defense, with the Golden Hurricane taking a pair of early shots to start the second. But the Bears stayed calm, moving the ball forward on counter attacks and seeking an equalizer. Brough put a second shot on frame following a throw-in, but this one would also be saved. Central Arkansas found the target on five shots in the second half, but the Tulsa keeper stayed in front of all five. Anna Kerr took a couple of shots that found their way to the frame of the goal, but Sunday's action just wouldn't go the way of the Bears.

Tulsa added a goal just before the end of the match, scoring in the 88th minute. With nonconference play in the rearview mirror, Central Arkansas looks ahead to the start of ASUN play. To start the conference, the Bears travel to Charlotte, N.C., to take on Queens on Thursday. First touch is set for 6 p.m. CT.
