CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears managed a pair of home runs but not much else Saturday in a 12-2 run-rule loss to the Stetson Hatters in Game 2 of their ASUN series at Bear Stadium.
The loss, coupled with Friday's setback, handed the Bears their first series loss at home this season. Game 3 is set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
The Bears got solo home runs from junior first baseman
A.J. Mendolia and senior right fielder
Kolby Johnson in a span of five pitches in the fourth inning that cut Stetson's lead to 7-2. But the Hatters (23-17, 11-6) added five more runs over the next two innings to end the game after seven.
Stetson finished with 13 hits, including a second home run in as many days by Daniel Labrador. Stetson starter Nick Durgin, making his first start of the season, went six innings for the win, striking out five and allowing four hits and two earned runs.
UCA used six pitchers, with starter
Charlie Christensen taking the loss. The Bears hit three batters and walked five. Johnson's home run put his team-leading season total at 10, while Mendolia hit his fifth.
