CONWAY, Ark. _ The University of Central Arkansas Bears get a second shot at Austin Peay on Saturday when they host the Governors for the first time at the Farris Center.
Tip-off is set for 3:30 p.m. on Scottie Pippen Court, following the UCA-Queens women's game that starts at 1 p.m.
The Bears, coming off a home loss to Lipscomb on Thursday, lost the first meeting with APSU back on Jan. 7 in Clarksville, Tenn. UCA was missing starting guard
Collin Cooper and sixth man
Elias Cato in that matchup.
The Bears are fairly healthy for the rematch, with only starter
Ibbe Klintman and reserve
Brendan Simmons still out with injury. Â
UCA senior guard
Eddy Kayouloud has been the go-to guy lately for the Bears. The 6-foot-7, 230-pounder from Paris, France, had a double-double with 29 points and 10 rebounds on Thursday and has averaged 23.5 points and 8.4 rebounds and is shooting 54.8 percent from the field over the past five games.
The Bears sit just outside the field that would make the ASUN Conference postseason tournament if the season ended today. UCA has five games remaining in the regular season, including three at home.
In the first meeting, the Governors sot 55.2 percent from the field on their home court and held the Bears to just 3 of 13 from three-point range in their first visit to the Dunn Center. UCA had three players in double figures but none more than 13 points (Kayouloud,
Camren Hunter). APSU got 17 points each from Cameron Copeland and Guy Fauntleroy and made nine three-pointers.
UCA suffered 16 turnovers in that game, which turned into 24 points for APSU, but has been stellar at taking care of the basketball in recent weeks. The Bears are averaging just 8.2 turnovers in the past seven games, with just seven against Lipscomb on Thursday.
The Governors (8-18, 2-11) are led by sophomore guard Sean Durugordon, who averages 12.7 points per game with 33 three-pointers. Elijah Hutchins-Everett is their top rebounder with 6.1 per game. The Governors have used 14 different starting lineups _ tied for second in the NCAA _ including a different one in the last eight games.Â
The game will be carried live on The Bear 91.3, 92.7 Jack FM and on ESPN+. Â
