CONWAY, Ark. _Â Â The University of Central Arkansas Bears and Hendrix Warriors will once again join forces for "Salute to Service Night" at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Farris Center.
The Bears and Warriors, along with the Little Rock Air Force Base, will salute all our veterans of the armed forces on the day before Veterans Day, and will also get to witness the swearing in ceremony of Air Force recruits at halftime of the game.
"It will be great basketball game, one, with our friends over at Hendrix," said UCA head coach
Anthony Boone. "But also a great commissioning service at halftime. It will be something very special for people to experience. As it was last year, it will be a wonderful evening in Farris."
The Bears are coming off a season-opening loss at Tulsa on Monday night where junior
Elias Cato and sophomore Carl Daughtery, Jr., led the scoring with 19 points each. UCA played without two injured players, All-ASUN guard and leading returning scorer
Camren Hunter and freshman guard
Javion Guy-King.
UCA's defense forced the Golden Hurricane into 18 turnovers and recorded eight steals. Daughtery made three of UCA's six three-pointers and was 8 of 14 overall from the field. Cato made 7 of 13 from the field and 4 of 6 at the free-throw line.
Hendrix, an NCAA Division II school that will count this game as an exhibition, lost its season opener 71-66 at home on Wednesday night. The Warriors, under head coach Thad McCracken, shot 38.5 percent overall and 21.4 percent (6 of 28) from the three-point line.
Colten Berry, a 6-foot-7 sophomore forward from Nixa, Mo., led the Warriors with 15 points and six rebounds.
UCA beat Hendrix 107-56 on last season's inaugural "Salute to Service Night."
The Bears will be at home again on Monday night against another in-state foe as Arkansas-Pine Bluff comes to the Farris Center for a 6:30 tip off.
