Bears Host Eastern Kentucky on Sunday

CONWAY, Ark. – Closing out a two-game home stand, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team hosts Eastern Kentucky in an ASUN match on Sunday. With only four games left on the schedule, this matchup has major implications for the ASUN Championships at the end of the month, and kicks off at 12 p.m.

The Bears (6-6-3, 5-1-1 ASUN) got back in the win column with a 2-0 win over Bellarmine on Thursday. Kelly Van Gundy and Megan Moudy each scored their fourth goals of the season as Central Arkansas picked up its fourth ASUN shutout. It also improved the Bears to 4-2-2 at home, including a 3-0-1 standing in conference games.

With the win over Bellarmine, the Bears have nearly clinched a spot in the ASUN Championships. All that the Bears need now is a win on Sunday and a Kennesaw State loss later in the day to lock in a spot. Currently in second place, the Bears are seeking another deep run in the tournament, having made semifinal appearances in each of the first two seasons since joining the ASUN in 2021.

Central Arkansas has a split series with Eastern Kentucky, with each side winning one of the two all-time matches. After taking the first meeting in 2021, the Bears fell in the second match last season, dropping a 3-2 contest in Richmond. Early goals in both halves for the Colonels had the Bears playing from behind, and despite a push in the second half, they just couldn't find an equalizer.

This season's EKU squad sits at 4-6-4 overall, with a 3-1-3 ASUN slate. The Colonels head to Conway after back-to-back 0-0 draws against Jacksonville and North Alabama. Additionally, EKU is riding a three-game streak without allowing a goal, having defeated North Florida 3-0 on Sept. 28th.

Stingy play has been the theme for the Colonels this season, with the team scoring and allowing 12 goals through 14 matches. Eastern Kentucky has only scored multiple goals in three matches this year, and likewise has allowed multiple goals three times. In fact, the points leader on the Colonels, Gretta Gunn, has only scored one goal, but has also tallied five assists. Two Colonels have scored multiple goals this season, with all eight other goals coming from different players. In goal, Marah Krick has started all 12 of her appearances, allowing just 11 goals for a 0.92 goals against average.

Kickoff against the Colonels is set for 12 p.m. at the Bill Stephens Track and Field Complex. The match will be streamed on ESPN+, with live stats available online.
