HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – After 18 holes of the Diamante Intercollegiate, the Central Arkansas women's golf team sits in third place. All four counting scores were at or under par, led by freshman
Gudrun Thorsteinsdottir.
Thorsteinsdottir, after getting her first action in last week's event, played a beautiful back nine, finishing the last nine holes with three of her four birdies en route to a 2-under 70, putting her in seventh place after one round.
Pim-Orn Thitisup was also under par for the round, placing 13
th after 18 holes. She tallied five birdies for a 1-under 71, the fourth-most birdies among the 95 golfers.
Madison Holmes continued her steady play from last week, keeping everything rock solid as she finished at an even 72. She added a pair of birdies to her round, with both coming in the final three holes, setting her up with a bit of wind in her sails for tomorrow's second round.
Valeria Ramirez enters Monday's second round tied with Holmes, penciling in three of her four birdies on the back nine to recover from a double bogey in the front.
Ayami Takahashi landed at a 1-over 73, playing her way to two birdies and finished her final 11 holes without a blemish. She sits just three strokes out of the top-10.
Camila Moreno birdied her second hole of the day as she turned in a 3-over 75. The senior was just a stroke over par on the front nine, with eight pars on the front half of the course.
Tanja Csaszar also birdied her second hole after starting on 10, finishing with a score of 83.
Cal Baptist is the frontrunner after Sunday's round, sitting at 7-under 281. Boston College is a single stroke behind the Lancers, with the Bears three strokes behind the Eagles. Central Arkansas was one of three teams to finish under par for the day. Cal Baptist's Samantha Dizon and Arkansas State's Elise Schultz, playing as an individual, are tied for first. Boston College's Canice Screene is in third place, just three strokes above Thorsteinsdottir.
