Sugar Bears Visit Stetson in the Sunshine State

CONWAY, Ark. – Fresh off of its first ASUN win of the season, the Central Arkansas women's basketball team takes to the road to face Stetson on Thursday. Tipping off at 6 p.m. CT, the Sugar Bears will now shoot for their first road win of the conference slate against the Hatters.

It was a rousing success for the Sugar Bears (6-8, 1-2 ASUN) against Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, defeating the Colonels 71-57. Freshman Parris Atkins led the team in scoring for the fifth-straight game, setting a new career-high with 18 points. She also tied season-bests with six boards and four steals. Joining her in double-figures were Randrea Wright (17 points) and Kierra Prim (13 points). Prim picked up her fourth double-double of the year against the Colonels, also pulling down 15 rebounds in the game. Saturday's win also marked a season-high in points for the Sugar Bears, as well as a season-low for EKU, who shot just 36 percent from the field and 24 percent from three.

Atkins leads the team in scoring on the year, averaging 11.6 points per game, followed closely by Wright at 10.2 points per game. Over the three conference games this year, the duo has combined for 82 points. Wright has also elevated her passing in conference play, ranking fifth in the league with 4.3 assists per game through the first three games.

Central Arkansas makes its first trip to DeLand, Fla., in program history, after the Hatters visited Conway for last season's matchup. Stetson enters the weekend with a 1-0 advantage in the series after last season, which marked the first-ever meeting between the teams.

The Hatters (7-9, 1-2 ASUN) host on Thursday after dropping a second-straight game on Saturday. Playing on the road for the second time in conference play, Stetson suffered a 50-46 loss to Austin Peay, as the Hatters were outscored by six in the second half to let it slip away. Two players, Anabel Ellison and Jamiya Turner, led the team in scoring with 10 points each.

Turner, who has only played twice this season, has scored double-figures in both games, averaging 11.0 points per contest. Jaelyn Talley, who has appeared in every game, averages 10.9 points per game, using her 6 foot frame to lead the team in field goals and free throws. Khamya McNeal leads the Hatters in three-pointers, hitting 21 this season.

Stetson, while shooting a lower percentage than its opponents, has been able to supplant that with offensive rebounds, pulling in 181 on the year. Seven Hatters have snared more than ten rebounds on the offensive glass.

Tip-off against the Hatters is set for 6 p.m. CT at The J. Ollie Edmunds Center in DeLand, Fla. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+, with live stats available here. Fans can also keep up with the Sugar Bears on the radio, following along at 91.3 The Bear.
