Bears Come up Short Against SMU

DALLAS, Texas – A hard-fought match in Dallas didn't go Central Arkansas' way, as the Bears fell 2-0 to the Mustangs Friday night. After surrendering an early goal, the Bears just couldn't put the finishing touches on a number of opportunities in their third-straight road game.

Central Arkansas falls to 0-2-1 on its road trip, but brings home a ton of experience against some very talented teams as they finally come home for their next game.

The opening minutes of the match felt like all SMU, as the home team exerted its will earning several corner kicks in the early goings of the match. The aggression paid off, as the Mustangs scored in the 12th minute to put the Bears behind the eight ball early.

SMU continued to play with aggression in the first half, putting the Bears in a tough spot, but the Bears remained unphased, continuing to press and apply pressure throughout the half. Central Arkansas was outshot 7-2 in the first half, but stayed in a good position as the first half came to a close.

The script flipped in the opening minutes of the second half, as the Bears ramped up the offensive intensity, putting multiple shots up in the first few minutes of the stanza. Sebastian Andreassen had a goal taken off the board by the referees in the 49th minute, as the 6-5 forward was called for a foul going up for the header. The call eliminated just one of several quality looks from Andreassen, who put four of his six shots on goal. SMU was able to counter in the 59th, earning a PK that stretched the lead to two.

Continuing to hunt for a goal, the Bears went to another level of pressure, earning five corner kicks down the stretch, but each time, the Mustangs found a way to keep the ball out of the net. Without a hint of surrender, Central Arkansas fought until the final whistle, as Andreassen nearly came away with the Bears' first goal of the night with 28 seconds remaining on the clock.

After a grueling three-game road swing, Central Arkansas will finally play a match at home, facing Air Force on Monday. Playing for the first time in front of Bear Nation, kickoff against Air Force is set for noon.
