CONWAY, Ark. - A tough outing for the Central Arkansas women's soccer team, as the Bears dropped a 3-0 finish to Oklahoma State on Sunday. Facing an aggressive Power 5 squad, the Bears struggled to match the Cowgirls' offense.
The loss drops Central Arkansas to 2-4-1 as the team ramps up for conference play to start next weekend.
Straight off the first touch, Tristyn Pavatt nearly put home a goal in the first minute, sending a shot across the mouth of the goal and wide left.Oklahoma State was quick on the counter, scoring in the ninth minute to establish the lead. The Cowgirls continued to press, playing six midfielders to lock down the middle of the field. Central Arkansas stayed tough, repelling attack after attack, but finally succumbed again in the 24th minute to fall down 2-0.
The Bears continued to struggle to get vertical on any sort of counter attack, playing on their heels for the rest of the first half.
Out of the break, Abby Gibson nearly got the Bears on the board with a strong shot in the 48th, but the Cowgirl goalkeeper was able to keep it out.
Oklahoma State earned a penalty kick in the 56th minute, with the Bears committing a hand ball in the box. Staring down the Cowgirl shooter, Kajsa Pruner read the shot perfectly, stuffing the free shot and keeping the game a two-goal margin. Despite the momentum of the save, it wouldn't last long, as Oklahoma State would earn another PK just a couple of minutes later, finishing it off for the final 3-0 score.
The Bears have several days to regroup, but are quickly back on the road to start conference play. On Thursday, the Bears will travel to Louisville, Ky., to face Bellarmine in their ASUN opener. First touch against the Knights is set for 6 p.m.
