TULSA, Okla. – The Central Arkansas women's soccer team continued its struggle in finding the back of the net away from home, dropping a 1-0 decision to Oral Roberts Sunday afternoon. Despite several quality chances, the Bears just couldn't put the finishing touches on any of them.
The loss drops Central Arkansas to 1-2-1 as the Bears close out August on the wrong side of the ledger.
Kajsa Pruner had a career-high seven saves, all in the first half, but the offensive struggles continued to plague a young attacking group.
ORU leapt out of the gates aggressively, recording the first shot of the game within the first minute. The Golden Eagles stayed aggressive all evening, outshooting the Bears 22-7.
Anna Kerr let loose on Central Arkansas' first shot a couple of minutes later, but it couldn't get past the keeper.
From there, the first half was largely played in Central Arkansas' defensive third, with the Golden Eagles keeping the Bears on their heels. Pruner and the defense did all they could to keep the ball out of the net, but finally let one sneak past in the 23
rd minute.
Kelly Van Gundy narrowly missed on equalizing the score in the 24
th, but her shot was also met by the ORU keeper. The teams would battle back and forth for the remainder of the half, neither side finding any quality looks before the whistle.
The second half was largely without drama for the majority of the half, with the Bears defense becoming a wall to all attacks, and the midfield being dominated by the Golden Eagles.
Central Arkansas created shots in the late stages of the game, with
Tristyn Pavatt nearly finding a goal in the 76
th minute, and in a furious rally at the end,
Amanda Walsh and
Emily Wissel-Littmann forced saves from the ORU keeper in the closing minutes, but the shots wouldn't go.
The Bears will head back to Tulsa on Thursday, albeit to face the crosstown Golden Hurricane. First touch against Tulsa is set for 6 p.m.
