CONWAY, Ark. – On the road for their final midweek of the spring, the Bears head to Fayetteville, Ark., for a rematch with instate foe No. 6 Arkansas. Facing the Razorbacks for the second time this season, Central Arkansas looks to avenge its early-season loss. Game time against the Hogs is set for 6 p.m. at Bogle Park.
The Bears (28-16, 12-6) play in one more game against an SEC opponent in the regular season, marking the sixth game against the Power 5 conference in 2022. Playing a pair of games against LSU and Mississippi State, Central Arkansas has split with both of those teams and now faces Arkansas for the second time this season.
Coming off of a fourth ASUN series win, the Bears have hit their stride offensively, batting .372 since last time the teams met. Over the course of the last week especially, the bats have been lethal as the Bears have outscored their opponents 29-5.
Morgan Nelson received her first ASUN Player of the Week award after batting .429 with four home runs and 12 RBI, but she was far from the only impact player over the last four games.
Kristen Whitehouse and
Tremere Harris have both hit over .600 over their last week, with Whitehouse batting an amazing .692 and Harris recording a .636 average from the second spot in the order. Adding to their impact on the team, Whitehouse has been perfect fielding from her shortstop position, while Harris added four steals over the past week.
Since the last time the Bears and Razorbacks played, Harris and
Mary Kate Brown have led the team in batting average, each hitting .452 in the last ten games. The duo has been a part of a lineup that has outscored opponents 63-16 in that stretch.
Not to be outshined, the pitching staff has more than held up its end in the preceding 10 games, allowing just a 1.54 team ERA. Behind the tag team of
Jordan Johnson and
Kayla Beaver, Central Arkansas has won nine of their last 10, striking out 69 batters and allowing opponents to bat just .220.
Last time the Bears and Razorbacks met, the Hogs took a 6-4 win in Conway. After a tough start that saw Central Arkansas give up five runs in the first, the Bears settled in and outscored Arkansas 4-1 the rest of the way. In the seventh inning,
Jaylee Engelkes dropped a two-RBI double to cut the lead to two, but the Bears couldn't finish the job.
The Hogs host the Bears for their final midweek of the season after sweeping Florida on the road this past weekend. It marked the first time since 2019 that the Gators had been swept in an SEC series. Arkansas now remains the only SEC team that has yet to drop a series.
Pitcher Chenise Delce tossed two complete games against the Gators, picking up her 12
th and 13
th wins of the season, recording a 0.47 ERA in the two games. For the season, she holds a 2.16 ERA with 127 strikeouts.
At the plate, three Arkansas players bat over .400, with Danielle Gibson leading the charge at .459. She ranks either first or second on the team in hits (61), doubles (11) and home runs (15). She is one of five Razorbacks with ten or more home runs, and is a large reason why Arkansas ranks sixth in the nation in total home runs this season.
First pitch against the Razorbacks is set for 6 p.m. at Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Ark. The game will be broadcast on the
SEC Network, with live stats available
