Softball Hits Road for Bout Against Tulsa

CONWAY, Ark. – On the road again, the Central Arkansas softball team heads to Tulsa, Okla., to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. The Bears enter the week after sweeping the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic, winning all four games on the weekend. First pitch against the Golden Hurricane is set for 5 p.m. at the Collins Family Softball Complex.

Playing a pair of games against Pine Bluff and Belmont each this past weekend, the Bears strolled to a 4-0 record, outscoring the field 29-3. Jenna Wildeman had a field day at the plate, batting .800 and stealing six bases on the weekend. For the season, the sophomore is batting .509, with 28 hits and 20 stolen bases. Her steals total leads the country, a title Wildeman captured a year ago.

In the circle, Kayla Beaver and Jordan Johnson both took home a pair of wins, each one earning a complete game shutout. The duo has a combined 108 strikeouts on the season, with Johnson ringing up 57 and Beaver with 51 Ks. Both pitchers have multiple games of 10-plus strikeouts this season, as Beaver has games of 11 (vs. UMKC) and 10 (Belmont) and Johnson has outings of 13 (Saint Louis) and 12 (Pine Bluff).

Tulsa plays host after dropping three of four at the TU/OSU Invitational over the weekend. Playing a bevy of high-powered schools, the Golden Hurricane took a win over DePaul on Friday, hitting four doubles as a team and taking the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning on three-straight scoring at bats.

Sitting at 6-11 on the season, the Golden Hurricane host the Bears as a lone midweek between tournaments, as the team heads to Texas Tech afterwards. Haley Morgan leads the team with a .392 batting average, with seven extra base hits and four stolen bases. Just behind her, Celeste Wood leads the team with 19 RBI, hitting seven doubles and three triples this season.

The pitching corps for Tulsa is led by Samantha Pochop, currently holding a 3.38 ERA. The senior pitcher has thrown three complete games, and has credit for the team's only shutout this year. The Henderson, Nev., native also has 57 of the team's 101 strikeouts, and holds batters to a .243 batting average.

The American Athletic Conference foe holds a 4-2 edge in the all-time series, with the last meeting between the teams taking place in 2014.

First pitch against Tulsa is set for 5 p.m. The game will be broadcast on YouTube, with live stats available here.
