SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Only getting in a round and a half because of rain, the Central Arkansas men's golf team lands in fifth place after Day One of the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate.
Josh Turnock closed the first round in a tie for ninth place, with
Nate Jolly making an appearance at 15
th.
Turnock shot seven birdies in the first round, helping himself to a 2-under 96 after 25 holes. If his standing holds, it would be the highest finish for an individual golfer this season. Jolly hit four birdies in the first 18 holes, with another in the start of his second round, placing him in the top-20 for the first time this season.
Sam Long clocks in at 32
nd through 24 holes, currently at 3-over 96. Long birdied four times in the first 18 holes, including three-of-four holes from 11-14.
Blaine Calhoon lands at a 5-over 104, while
Spencer Jenkins will resume play at 7-over 100.
Valparaiso, Oral Roberts and Wichita State currently hold the top three spots in the team standings, all sitting below par as groups. Individually, Dawson Lewis of Wichita State leads the way.
With the stoppage due to rain, the teams will pick the second round back up on Tuesday, completing 36 holes, which will set the final standings, instead of the originally scheduled 54 holes.
