JACKSONVILLE, Ala. _ The last time the University of Central Arkansas and Jacksonville State met, the game went down to the wire, with the Gamecocks pulling out a five-point victory at the Farris Center on Jan. 18.
That game featured 24 lead changes and 11 ties, with the five-point final margin being the largest lead of the night for either team. UCA had five players in double figures, shot 47.3 percent from the field overall and 34.8 percent from three-point range, and also forced JSU into 20 turnovers. But JSU won the game with 12 three-pointers, with junior Demaree King going 6 for 11 from beyond the arc, and had a +10 rebound margin.
The Bears led as late as the 1:12 mark when graduate forward
Jared Chatham had a baseline dunk, but the first-place Gamecocks outscored the Bears 7-0 from there.
JSU (16-8) remains in first place in the ASUN West Division with a 9-2 record, but is coming off a 63-57 loss at Stetson on Wednesday night. The Gamecocks led 41-34 at halftime but were held to just 16 points in the second half as the Hatters outscored them 34-16. JSU shot just 6 of 26 from the field, including 1 of 9 from three-point range, after halftime.
JSU, which averages nearly 10 three-pointers made per game, have four players averaging in double figures, led by Darian Adams at 15.0 per game.
UCA is also coming off a Wednesday loss after dropping an 83-72 decision at Kennesaw State in the first meeting between the programs. Freshman point guard
Camren Hunter led the Bears with 20 points, hitting 3 of 5 from three-point range. Chatham added his second straight double-double and third in the last seven games with 18 points and 13 rebounds.Â
UCA sits in third place in the West Division at 4-6 with six regular-season games remaining. The Bears return home for their next three games, hosting Bellarmine next Wednesday, Eastern Kentucky on Saturday and Liberty on Monday, Feb. 21. Â
