CONWAY, Ark. _ The "Governor's I-40 Showdown" makes its return to the Farris Center on Monday night when the University of Central Arkansas Bears host the Little Rock Trojans at 7 p.m.
The teams did not meet last season due to a flu outbreak within the Little Rock team. The Trojans won the past two meetings with the Bears, but UCA leads the overall series 36-15.
Ironically, both teams enter Monday's game after beating cross-town foes in their last game. UCA beat the Hendrix Warriors 107-56 on Friday at home, while Little Rock knocked off Arkansas Baptist 71-60 on Thursday at the Jack Stephens Center. Both teams are 1-1 after the Bears lost 79-55 at Wichita State in their season opener and the Trojans fell 94-63 at Southern Illinois.
Against the Warriors, UCA had six players in double figures and conected on 14 three-pointers by seven different players. For the season, three players are averaging 13 points per game, including junior
Masai Olowokere, sophomore Camren Hunter and freshman Carl Daughtery, Jr. Olowokere is also the team leader in rebounding at 8.0 per game.
Little Rock held off ABC despite shooting just 36.5 percent from the field and suffering 17 turnovers. For the season, the Trojans are averaging 67 points per game and allowing 77. Little Rock opponents are shooting 45.3 percent from the field and have made 17 three-pointer in the two games.
After Monday's game, UCA heads to Ireland for the ASUN-MAAC Challenge on Friday and Saturday. UCA will take on Niagara at 11 a.m. (CT) on Friday and Rider at 6 a.m. (CT) on Saturday.
Little Rock will play six of its next seven games on the road through Dec. 6, from Indiana, to Ohio, to California to Tennessee.Â
