CONWAY, Ark. – Playing at home again after a two-game road swing, the Central Arkansas women's soccer team returns to the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex to take on Jacksonville State on Thursday. Kickoff against the Gamecocks is set for 7 p.m.
The Bears (4-7-2, 2-3-1 ASUN) bring home a conference win over Queens after downing the Royals 2-1 on Sunday.
Taylor Lassiter notched the lone goal of the first half, scoring her second goal of the season in the 32
nd minute. Deep into the second half, Queens would tie the game in the 71
st minute. Not content with a draw against the ASUN's newest member,
Taylor Webb launched in another 50-plus yard goal to take the lead just a few minutes later.
After scoring against the Royals, the Taylors moved into a tie for leading scorer on the team, along with
Abby Gibson, with Webb becoming the fourth Bear to score a game-winner this season. In goal,
Keyla Perez got the start, recording 45 shutout minutes of soccer before
Kajsa Pruner took over in the second half. The duo combined for 10 saves in the win.
Last season's match against the Gamecocks was also at home for the Bears. Taking a 5-0 win over the visitors, Central Arkansas logged two goals in the first 25 minutes before really breaking it open in the second half, scoring another pair of goals 58 seconds apart to take a 4-0 lead. The dominant win kicked off a four-game winning streak for the Bears, who cruised to the ASUN West title.
Jacksonville State has struggled to find scores this season, entering the week with a 2-10 overall record and an 0-4 ASUN record. The Gamecocks have scored just eight times this season, with seven of their goals coming in a two-game stretch against Alabama State and Troy.
Most recently, Jacksonville State dropped a 1-0 final score at North. Florida, continuing to struggle to find clean looks, failing to score for the fourth-straight game.
The Gamecocks are led by Cynthia Bagozzi, whose three goals all came in the win over Alabama State. Between the posts, Bailey Dean has played 855 minutes across 10 starts, logging 38 saves while allowing 16 goals.
Thursday's match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Bill Stephens Track and Soccer Complex. The match will be streamed on
