CONWAY, Ark. – Riding a five-match unbeaten streak, the Central Arkansas men's soccer team wraps up the regular season with a final home match against Jacksonville. Celebrating Senior Day to acknowledge and appreciate the accomplishments of the exiting class, kickoff against the Dolphins is set for 11 a.m. on Saturday; Senior Day festivities will take place shortly beforehand.
The Bears (6-4-4, 5-1-1 ASUN) finish off the regular season having already clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's ASUN Championship, doing so for the second-straight year. Most recently, Central Arkansas snagged a 1-1 draw against Kansas City on Tuesday. Falling behind in the 58
th minute,
Sebastian Andreassen scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season in the 69
th to even things up.
Andreassen is one of eight seniors being honored on Saturday, along with
Bernard Assibey-Rhule,
Mathias Bendiksen,
Karim Diao,
Diego Gonzalez,
Bradyn Knutson,
Rowan Laufer, and
Edoardo Merci. Between them, the group has accounted for 33 wins and a pair of conference titles, winning the Sun Belt in 2018 before winning a share of the ASUN title last season. The group has scored a combined 45 goals and logged 47 assists.
The senior class has been responsible for 13 goals, of which three are game-winners, 11 assists, all while playing a massive part in almost defeating multiple top-10 teams in the country, raising the profile of Central Arkansas for many years to come. Under the watch of this class, the Bears have raised their RPI, one of college soccer's preeminent rankings, all the way to 22 this season.
Jacksonville heads to Conway with a 3-7-3 record, closing out the season with an 0-4-2 ASUN slate. In their last game, the Dolphins dropped a 2-1 score to Stetson, falling in their final home game of the season. Despite outshooting the Hatters 10-7 with a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal, the Dolphins couldn't find a way to capture their first ASUN win of the year.
The Dolphins' leading scorer this season is Joshua Araujo-Wilson, with three goals so far in 2022. Three other Dolphins have logged two goals, and six players have one goal to their names. Moussa Sabaly leads the team in points with eight, connecting on one goal and six assists.
